Welcome to Julius A Wendt Elementary School
Julius A Wendt Elementary School serves Kindergarten through 5th grade students in Wahkiakum County and is located on a bluff in Cathlamet, Washington, overlooking the Lower Columbia River.
VERY IMPORTANT: The WSD School Calendar has been updated for snow make-up days.
Kindergarten Registration - Very Important!
All parents of students who are eligible to start Kindergarten in the Fall of 2017 are encouraged to stop by the Elementary Office between 9am - 2pm on April 17-21. You'll need a copy of the Kindergartener's birth certificate and immunization records.
Please spread the word and let anyone you know that may have an eligible student to come in and register, so we can plan for the upcoming school year. If we only plan for 1 class and end up needing 2 classes, those students last registered will be the students who will be switched to the new class.

Our Amazing School Garden
The Wahkiakum School Garden, started on Earth Day 2014, provides K-5 students the opportunity every week to learn about how to grow fruits and vegetables from seed to harvest. The garden program includes lessons in composting and recycling, as well as lessons in nutrition and making healthy food choices. These activities integrate Common Core and Next Gen Science Standards and include literature, art, and social studies.
The Garden staff is comprised of a former Dept of Health Americorps member, a Master Gardener/Composter, a WSU Nutrition Educator, and a retired classroom teacher. Community support and sponsors include: Cathlamet Building Materials, Wahkiakum County Dept. of Health, Anderson Shake, Bank of the Pacific, Willapa Hills Audubon Society, Wal-Mart (Longview), WSU Extension, and Lower Columbia School Gardens.
Annual events include the ever-popular Harvest Festival in October and the Mother's Day Plant Sale in May. We look forward to adding additional family activities this spring.
We welcome new volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering, please call Robin Westphall at 707-672-5609 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org

Boxtops for Education and Campbell's Soup Labels
We are continuing to collect Boxtops for Education. We no longer collect ink cartridges. We are grateful to those of you who send in these items as they help with purchases for "extra" items that we might not otherwise have. This school year, we have set a lofty goal of collecting over 10,000 boxtops.
St. James Family Center continues to gather Campbell's Soup labels, so please send yours their way.
