Alternative Learning Options
In addition to high quality classroom offerings, Wahkiakum School District also offers access to a wide range of online (ALE) classes that students can complete from home as well as support for families who choose home schooling.
ALE - Online Alternative Education
Wahkiakum High School is offering high school credited classes through their online ALE (Alternative Learning Experience) program. Through this program, students take high school classes online at home, come to school to take tests, and work towards a high school diploma. Wahkiakum High School offers a wide range of classes that students can take online at home. Students participating in an ALE class must have a Written Student Learning Plan signed by the principal, parent and student. Students must also make arrangements to do the class work at home and will not be allowed to be at the school during the ALE class period. All tests will be taken at school and scheduled with the ALE director. It is an expectation that the ALE class will be completed within the quarter it is taken. Our ALE Program is offered through OdysseyWare, a leading provider of innovative eLearning solutions. For specific information on the computer requirements and system recommendations, visit OdysseyWare's website.
Contact the ALE Program Director, Stephanie Leitz, at 360-795-3261 or by email or the WHS Principal at 360-795-3271 for more information. A similar program is available at John C. Thomas Middle School, only on a more limited basis. Contact the Middle School Principal, Theresa Libby, at 360-795-3261 or by email for more information.
Home Schooling for All Grades, K-12 The District also has an ALE program for Home School families, incorporating learning at home with parents as teachers, yet having a connection with our District, which includes having communication and some instructional assistance provided by one of our certificated teachers. For more information, contact Stephanie Leitz at our K-8 building (360-795-3261) or by email. Already a home-school family? Don't forget to complete the Notice of Intent to Home-School Your Children each year and send it in.
