Mules Athletics

Wahkiakum Mules

The majority of our middle school students participate in at least one after-school sport sometime during the year. The local community is very supportive of our Mules sports teams and travel to many of our "away" events, as well.  Gate fees and information can be found on the attached Middle School Ticket Prices.

Requirements for Participating John C. Thomas Middle School Athletics and Activities

ASB Cards

All athletes must purchase an ASB card each year. Middle school athletes ASB cards may be purchased for $25, with checks payable to John C. Thomas Middle School.

Middle School Sports Eligibility Policies

Students at the middle school level that participate in sports have their grades checked every Thursday. If a student is failing a class or classes the student will be notified on Thursday. They may work on assignments over the weekend and turn in their work before school on Monday to see if they can become eligible. At times there is no make-up work to be turned in (ex. PE) so it is a good idea to keep your grades passing at all times. Please be aware that at the beginning of the quarter when only a few assignments are in the grade book one missing assignment or poor score can really affect the overall grade.

It is the athlete's responsibility to make up the work and return it to the teacher before school on Monday. If they are passing after the work is graded they get to participate that week, if they are not passing they practice with the team but do not travel to away contests or participate in any contests. If a student is not eligible for three weeks, they will no longer be a part of the team.

John C. Thomas Middle School Athletic and Activities Policies Handbook

The JCT MS Athletic and Activities Handbook also includes the Wahkiakum School Athletic and Activities Code of Conduct, Academic Eligibility Information, Concussion Fact Sheet, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Fact Sheet, and the Safety Warnings for the specific sports your athlete will be participating in. After reviewing these items in the Handbook,  the student and parent or guardian must complete the signature page. By signing this form, your student is cleared to participate in every sport or activity for the school year.

Student Accident and Health Insurance

All student athletes are required to have health insurance coverage. For those who do not have medical insurance, Wahkiakum School District makes available to parents a relatively low-cost Student Accident and Sickness Coverage for their children. Families without student athletes are also allowed to purchase this coverage, if they are so inclined. There is however, no requirement on the District's part for student non-athletes to have this coverage. Student Health Insurance.

Pay to Participate

High School student athletes will be charged $60 per sport and Middle School student athletes will need to pay $40 per sport. Athletes must pay their fee no later than one day prior to the first game/event (not the day of) in which the athlete is eligible and does not guarantee playing time. Please make your checks payable to the Wahkiakum School District for both MS and HS student athletes.  Low income students who request assistance, may tap the "donation pool" for 50% of their fee, as long as there are monies available in that pool.

Physicals

All new and returning Warrior and Mule athletes MUST visit a doctor or health care provider and submit a completed Physical Exam Form, Medical Insurance, and Emergency Contact Info  in order to be qualified to participate in Wahkiakum School District sports programs.

Donations are welcome and should be delivered to the District Office with a check payable to the Wahkiakum School District. If desired, your donations can be earmarked to assist a specific extracurricular program, otherwise they will go to a general fund for Pay to Participate. If you want to make a 100% donation for a particular athlete for a particular sport, we will honor your request. If you have any questions about making a donation, please contact the School District office at 360-795-3971, or either school building.
