How do I find out if school is delayed or closed?
In the event school is delayed or closed because of bad weather, local radio stations and Portland television stations will be notified as early as possible.
The District will also update our Closure Notice (at the top of this page) and use our School Messenger Calling System to inform families of any inclement weather-related changes.
You can also click on any of the news links in the call-out box at the top of this page.
Remember, no information will be reported if the schools are operating on a regular schedule.
What is the Kindergarten schedule when school is delayed for 1 or 2 hours?
Since the Kindergarten is on a full-day schedule, just like grades 1-12, when school is delayed 1 hour due to weather, the schedule for the Kindergarten is the same as all other grades, including the bus schedule.
Is breakfast served on late-start days?
Breakfast is served when school starts one hour late. However, we do not serve breakfast on a 2-hour late start.
Early Release Policies

Does the District Offer Student Accident and Health Insurance?
All student athletes are required to have health insurance coverage. For those who do not have it, Wahkiakum School District makes available to parents a relatively low-cost Student Accident and Sickness Coverage for their children.
Families without student athletes are also allowed to purchase this coverage, if they are so inclined. There is however, no requirement on the District's part for student non-athletes to have this coverage.
Forms are available through our student registration process, as well as in both school offices. Feel free to contact your student's school office for more information and/or to pick up the form describing the Student Accident and Health Insurance.
Does the District Offer a Home Schooling Program?
Yes, the District offers an Alternative Learning Option for Home School families for grades K-12, incorporating learning at home with parents as teachers, yet having a connection with our District, which includes having communication and some instructional assistance provided by one of our certificated teachers. How Do I Order More Copies of My Student's School Photos?
Wahkiakum School District works with Bell Studios for all student pictures. They come to our schools and take the school pictures. When the student pictures have been printed, Bell Studios delivers the picture packets to the District for distribution to the students. In those packets will be a passcode for ordering.
Bell Studios will also provide the District with a list of the students' passcodes. PLEASE NOTE: To ensure your privacy, Bell Studios will no longer give passcodes over the phone. Any parent/guardian who loses a passcode must come to the School District Office in person. Once the District Office establishes that this person is the parent/guardian who initially received the passcode, the District will give them their passcode.
